The basis for calculating the grid fee is the base price/labor and reactive energy price, as well as the so-called capacity price. A reduction in peak loads (also known as peak load capping or peak load reduction) therefore leads to immediate cost savings. Furthermore, losses also decrease at lower power levels. To reduce peak loads, production plants could be shut down. However, this represents a significant intervention in sensitive manufacturing processes and should therefore be avoided. For this reason, battery storage systems are used, which are discharged when load peaks are imminent and charged at times of low load.
